As technology is creeping into every aspect of our life at a very fast rate, it was only inevitable to find technology in our oral hygiene routine. Electric toothbrushes are huge in today’s world, and for some great reasons. However, this doesn’t mean you have to toss out your manual toothbrush.

Benefits of an electric toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes are extremely helpful in cleaning your teeth. Built with many different sized heads and brushes, it is easy to find one that suits you best. Electric toothbrushes also offer many different speed settings, which is helpful for finding a speed that feels just right! With the spinning brush, your teeth are receiving a much more thorough and effective clean than they would with a manual brush. The spinning brush gets into the natural grooves and crevices of your teeth, spots that a manual brush cannot reach.

Some electric brushes even have built-in timers. As we know, we should be brushing for two minutes. Electric brushes will sometimes pulsate every 30 seconds to let you know when it’s time to switch to another side of your mouth. If you break your mouth into four different sections, this is a very simple way to ensure you are cleaning every section equally.

Are manual toothbrushes a thing of the past?

Not at all! Manual toothbrushes will always be a staple in the oral hygiene world. They are classic, easy to travel with, and still highly effective for cleaning your teeth. As long as you are brushing twice daily, and brushing for the recommended two minutes, you are doing just fine.

If you are unsure about switching to an electric brush, perhaps you can incorporate it into your routine slowly. Maybe use the electric brush in the evening to take care of all of the food you’ve eaten throughout the day, and use the manual brush in the morning to freshen up calmly. It’s all up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

Brush, brush, brush

Regardless of what type of toothbrush you prefer, what matters is that you are brushing your teeth. No dentist will force you to use one or the other, it’s all a personal choice.
